About course:
This embroidery making holiday offers a calming creative retreat from the stresses of the outside world, a beautiful location and a chance to create a unique piece of art to take home.
Your tutor is academic painter Antonia Ruskovic. This fun course will provide the environment, materials and guidance so that you can produce your own unique artwork.
Course description:
- Learn a traditional craft that can be worked with bobbins in a variety of styles both traditional and modern.
- Having learnt the basic techniques you will be encouraged to develop your skills on individual projects
- This specific embroidery can be applied on bags, wallets, table -cloths, curtains, dresses and other clothing
- On the course you will be able to complete and take back home your artwork to enjoy and impress your friends.
About Silk and Tradition of Silk Embroidery in Konavle
Konavle is the rural area in the hinterlands of Dubrovnik known for its national costumes and hospitality of its people. Konavlian women still breed silkworms and use the silk threads to embroider the most beautiful parts of their costume.
Today the embroidery represents the most known souvenir for the entire Dubrovnik area. You will have the opportunity to see the silkwarms kept in the atelier of Antonia Ruskovic and to hear the story about the silk.
Itinerary:
Day 1 Arrival Day
Welcome at the airport of Dubrovnik and transfer to your accommodation in small pictoresque seaside resort of Cavtat.
Arrive and check into your accommodation anytime after 12pm and enjoy the rest of the day to settle in.
Day 2 Traditional Embroidery Workshop
After breakfast, we drive 15 minutes to the countryside to meet our host and artist Antonia in her own atelier.
On our way we make a stop in one of the neighbouring villages. Two elderly ladies dressed in traditional costumes will show you how they make home made silk from the silkwarms and how tradition still lives emroidered on their costumes.
After introduction to the basics of the traditional craft you will go to the atelier to work under guidance of your tutor.
Break around 1:00 pm for homemade light lunch and cup of tea, juice or coffee afterwards. After break you will finish your artwork.If you wish to add some more creative energy you can choose some extra products like bags or bookmarks and decorate them with your own design.(These extra products cost addittionally from 5 € to 30€ ) Around 4:00 pm we go back to Cavtat – rest of the day at leisure.
Day 3 Walking tour of Dubrovnik
Morning transfer from Cavtat to the Old City of Dubrovnik.
Walking tour with local friendly guide where you will be introduced to the history and centuries old architecture .We finish on the beautiful site on the City walls where another atelier of your host is situated...there you will be given your artwork to take it home.
Rest of the day at leisure
Day 4 Departure day
Transfer to the airport provided.

Courses run throughout the year( except on Christmas and New Year holidays)
All arrivals are on Thursday afternoon and the painting course will finish on Sunday morning (3 nights / 4 days)
