Itinerary:

After meeting your guide on the pier, you will drive to a panoramic spot where you will have the opportunity to have a bird's eye view of the walled town of Dubrovnik and the scenic Croatian coast.

You will then drive to the main entrance of the walled town where you will begin your walking tour by climbing on one of three major entrances to the Walls.

Walls have always been a part of Dubrovnik's history and have been mentioned in writings as far back as the 9th century A.D. when the Saracens besieged the city for 15 months before giving up. The city was completely enclosed by walls by the 13th century A.D. and they continued to fortify and repair them from that time on. The ramparts are intact and encircle the old city with a circumference of more than a mile and a half. You will see the gorgeous Minceta Fortress, St. John's Fortress, Bokar Fortress and the rest of the city from above.

After touring the walls you will have the opportunity to explore the town on your own during your free time before rejoining your transfer back to the pier.

This tour is fully adaptable to customize your wishes and itinerary.

Itinerary:

Jewish people first arrived in Dubrovnik in the 15th Century and made an important contribution to the Republic's Golden Age.
Today the Dubrovnik Jewish Community has less then 50 members, but throughout history this community has played a very important role in the development of the Dubrovnik Republic.

After entering the town, you will walk to the old ghetto area with your private guide and visit the synagogue which is one of the most cherished sites of Sephardic culture in the world. The combination of a 13th-century Gothic house with a 16th-century Sephardic synagogue interior makes this a special place.
The synagogue was heavily damaged by an earthquake in 1979 and then received further damage during the shelling of the city in 1991. Through donations from around the world, repairs were made and the small community was finally able to hold services again 7 years later.
Returning to the Stradun, (main street) you will view other fine buildings from the outside: the Sponza Palace, notable for its column courtyard with elaborate stone carvings; the Church of Saint Blaise; and Onofrio's Fountain.
At the end of the walking tour, free time will be available to tour the Old Town before transferring back to the ship.

What is Dubrovnik like?

The charm of Dubrovnik lies in its street life and medieval character, punctuated by the blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture.

What is the weather like?

Dubrovnik has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers.

Air temperature
average of coldest period (January) 9 C
average of warmest period (August) 25 C

Where does the ship dock?

                                       dubrovnik_main_port (250x175)

The Port of Dubrovnik (with a Ship at Anchor in the Bay)

The ships dock at the Port of Gruz, approximately 2.5 km northwest of Old Town. It is about a 10 minute drive from the port to Old Town. Note that there is only space for two mega liners in the port and you may anchor in the middle of the bay and tender if there are too many ships for the port and the anchorage mentioned below.  It is actually a very nice tender ride, as it is quite beautiful in the harbor's bay.

It is also quite possible that you might anchor off of Dubrovnik and tender into the Old Port (small ancient boat harbor right at the foot of the main street in Dubrovnik). This is an impressive way to enter the Old Section and well worth the tender process.

Where is the shopping?

                                      main_shopping_street (250x175)

                                                 Dubrovnik's Main Shopping Street

Numerous shops and galleries line the Placa, the main street of Old Town.

Most shops are open from 8.00AM to 8.00PM

The narrow pedestrian streets that make up Dubrovnik's Old Town contain many small and unique boutiques and shops and are well worth exploring. The city is very clean.

What is there to buy?

Lace, embroidery, wood carvings, ceramics, tapestries, jewelry and leather and wooden products are all available.

Is there anything of “Don’t Miss” quality?

BUZA BAR – open bar on the city cliffs. Our friendly guides are always open to show you this beautiful hidden treasure.

GREEN MARKET with local home made products and fresh fruits and vegetables.
